i am terribly honoured that nik has arrowed me to plan the next class outing. it shall be in late july/early august when everyone is back and before school starts (for those of us who have yet to graduate)(congrats to those who have!! =D)

the activity: (unknown , please suggest) + dinner + post dinner (unknown, please suggest)
time: 1.30pm (after lunch)

the blog is a tad stale; guess everyone has been caught up with work. hohum! hope that everyone has been having a great time no matter where you are =) life is sometimes a blur and some aspects of it may seem directionless at some point in time or another..

perhaps it looks better that way, with the colours of objects blending into each other; the picture appears more flawless when you don't look at the grainy imperfect bits. maybe all of us need such moments to make us realise that we need better lens and a better perspective.

Updates updates

The blog has a new url, look at the address bar! Don't worry, the original url (which everyone probably used =) still works. Both link to this.

I increased the width of the template (to fit on all those large screens most people have); whoever doesn't like it, click "funny" below
I added some advertisements (if you want a short ".tk" domain for yourself, do click on the ad on the right! It will help the 06s7d account earn referral points, and can offset for lack of visitors and stuff; whoever likes the new url, click "interesting" below
I increased the font size in general, so we don't have to strain so much. Whoever prefers the smaller font, click "cool" below
To the banner designer, a new banner would be cool. The new width is 1000px, and I think the imagemap coordinates are not lining up properly. Not sure about the code for <map>, if you can just modify the height and width directly?

Tech Jokes to Keep you Happy on Vday

In line with the recent technical upgrades of the blog by Ben, let's have some tech-related jokes for laughs!

Tech Support

Just in case you think you are TC (technologically challenged). The following is an excerpt taken from a Wall Street Journal article:

1.Compaq is considering changing the command "Press Any Key" to "Press Return Key" because of the flood of calls asking where the "Any" key is.

2.AST technical support had a caller complaining that her mouse was hard to control with the dust cover on. The cover turned out to be the plastic bag the mouse was packaged in.

3.Another Compaq technician received a call from a man complaining that the system wouldn't read word processing files from his old diskettes. After trouble-shooting for magnets and heat failed to diagnose the problem, it was found that the customer had labeled the diskettes, then
rolled them into the typewriter to type the labels.

4.Another AST customer was asked to send a copy of her defective diskettes. A few days later a letter arrived from the customer along with photocopies of the floppies.

5.A Dell technician advised his customer to put his troubled floppy back in the drive and close the door. The customer asked the tech to hold on, and was heard putting the phone down, getting up and crossing the room to close the door to his room.

6.Another Dell customer called to say he couldn't get his computer to fax anything. After 40 minutes of trouble-shooting, the technician discovered the man was trying to fax a piece of paper by holding it in front of the monitor screen and hitting the "send" key.

7.Yet another Dell customer called to complain that his keyboard no longer worked. He had cleaned it by filling up his tub with soap and water and soaking the keyboard for a day, then removing all the keys and washing them individually.

8.A Dell technician received a call from a customer who was enraged because his computer had told him he was "bad and an invalid". The tech explained that the computer's "bad command" and "invalid" responses shouldn't be taken personally.

9.A confused caller to IBM was having troubles printing documents. He told the technician that the computer had said it "couldn't find printer". The user had also tried turning the computer screen to face the printer - but that his computer still couldn't "see" the printer.

10.An exasperated caller to Dell Computer Tech Support couldn't get her new Dell Computer to turn on. After ensuring the computer was plugged in, the technician asked her what happened when she pushed the power button. Her response, "I pushed and pushed on this foot pedal and
nothing happens." The "foot pedal" turned out to be the computer's mouse.

11.Another customer called Compaq tech support to say her brand-new computer wouldn't work. She said she unpacked the unit, plugged it in and sat there for 20 minutes waiting for something to happen. When asked what happened when she pressed the power switch, she asked "What power switch?"

12.True story from a Novell NetWire SysOp:

Caller: "Hello, is this Tech Support?"
Tech: "Yes, it is. How may I help you?"
Caller: "The cup holder on my PC is broken and I am within my warranty period. How do I go about getting that fixed?"
Tech: "I'm sorry, but did you say a cup holder?"
Caller: "Yes, it's attached to the front of my computer."
Tech: "Please excuse me if I seem a bit stumped, It's because I am. Did you receive this as part of a promotional, at a trade show? How did you get this cup holder? Does it have any trademark on it?"
Caller: "It came with my computer, I don't know anything about a promotional. It just has '4X' on it." At this point the Tech Rep had to mute the caller, because he couldn't stand it. He was laughing too hard. The caller had been using the load drawer of the CD-ROM drive as a cup holder, and snapped it off the drive!

13.Another IBM customer had troubles installing software and rang for support. "I put in the first disk, and that was OK. It said to put in the second disk, and had some problems with the disk. When it said to put in the third disk - I couldn't even fit it in..." The user hadn't realized
that "Insert Disk 2" meant to remove Disk 1 first.

14.In a similar incident, a customer had followed the instructions for installing software. The instructions said to remove the disk from it's cover and insert into the drive. The user had physically removed the casing of the disk and wondered why there were problems.

Hello everybody!

Here is a pic of my cousin Maximilliam, my brother and me. No prizes for guessing who's who (obviously i'm the most handsome)

He is half-german (!), works as a firefighter (!!!), has not visited S'pore in the past 10 years and is in town over these 2 weeks. He has lots of entertaining stories, which I realized after getting past staring at his biceps for 10min when I first saw him.

the snow was amazingly pretty today so i just decided to try to capture them on camera. don't think my camera skills were pro enough, so this will have to suffice.. or maybe some things are just meant for the eye to see and enjoy :)

for some reason the snow was chunky and the details were very obvious to the naked eye, unlike other days when the snowflakes are small and dissolve almost immediately/clump together.

Yes i've been stalking this blog for quite a while..and i figured its time to start contributing =)

Hope this post finds everybody well, be it mugging for exams or serving the nation. Anyway, here's some good advice, as advocated by a doctor-to-be (yours truly :P).

Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?!
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it.... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable).. And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me..

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! ! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

AND.....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION

Eat and drink what you like.
Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Hello, thank you for reviving the blog, I really missed it while it was gone! Thanks Adrian :) Really appreciate it.

It is the middle of the night now on Saturday and I'm still doing homework, which is rather pathetic (I bet alot of you have forgotten the feeling of homework...) but I'm happy to be busy too I guess. The weather is sort of warming up here, sort of. Rehearsals have been taking up my time too! We're having this Singapore day thing, Dia'spura. It centres around Singaporean identity in film and so on, on we're having Mr Brown and some Singaporean filmmakers over! (Boo Junfeng, Li-Anne Huang, Michael Wang and Mirabelle Ang, if you know who these people are) Anyway, on top of that, some really talented penn people wrote an entire musical (the songs are awesome, I swear) so I've been really busy with that, acting and stuff. Plus, we have a pseudo mambo night party, so that promises to be pretty fun.

Chern Wei's photos gave me an idea! Let's all post up one (or a couple of photos) which we feel best represent our life at this point. It will be very interesting, to see where all our lives are at this point. And then give them a title, just to point us in the right direction of how to interpret them. (I know we're going to end up seeing a lot of army photos...try and prove me wrong please.)

Regardless, since I have been asked to give a brief elaboration, I will be honorable and divulge the deep dark secret, for I have no penchant for deceit. They form part of my plot for world domination. The ISA also briefly caught on to this, and hence resulted in the brief termination of the blog. However, its revival just proves that my dedication and wit is inexorable.

Really.

Okay, now that my brilliant reverse psychology has undoubtedly convinced everyone, I can freely reveal the intricate details of my plot. They involve a waffle and a monkey. The reasoning is simple, because one day, the monkey will eat the waffle, and the world will fall. I alone will rise above the ruins and become lord and master of the world. Of course, that's the big overall plan which simpletons will be unable to understand, so to be more specific, I will describe the role of the blog in the big plan.

Firstly, the blog serves as a tool to recruit minions for my cause. By building a sense of camaraderie, I will have a pool of zealots willing to lay down their lives for the cause. This much has been achieved, as am I assured the seeds of devotion have already been planted. Over a year and ye have yet to forget about it. Go me.

Secondly, it serves as a platform for insiduous subliminal messaging. Ever wondered why my posts make little sense? Because they have been structured to appeal directly to your subconscious over your cognition. Hence why it often makes little sense but yet you are drawn to finish reading everything. By hiding such messages among the sheer volume of deceptively similar retardation online, it is more likely to evade detection. (The ISA catching on was a fluke on their part. Clearly some novice being bored and hitting the delete button on random pages. Supported by the lack of followup action on their part after its revival).

In the grand scheme of things, this means I will be able to gradually subvert and create my supermonkey of awesome, which plays a significant role in my taking over the world.

P.s. Do not tell anyone else about this, even if you did, my creative eugenics and genetic engineering program from several generations ago has already ensured the imprinting of disbelief in any slander against me.

haha pictures of me!! clubbing photos and also food that we cook la. i dno y ppl here go clubbing, mus wear a coat or suit 1. then go inside only take out. haha. n oso i learnt how to cook a lot here cos london fd so damn expensive! haha

basically uni is sort of the best time of my life la. i am gonna have a 5 week holiday now cos it is easter break. the whole yr study 23 weeks only. 1 month christmas break. 1 month easter break. n 4 months summer hols. qte shiok la haha n i rly enjoying myself haha

thank goodness london hv many frens tt i can mix wif la. dun rly mix a lot wif ang mohs cos everybody clique in our own grps/nationalities 1 haha but it is still good! love it haha

n it is rly nice to be overseas la haha. e 1st day i reach here was rly one of e best days ever la! u come here, then u sort of dun hv an identity, then u roam arnd e beautiful city n visit e parks n stuff. n yeah i feel much less pressured in uni to do well n stuff. cos jc, everybody jus scrutinise u n stuff haha i felt. so here, i feel very free haha =)
n so i changed qte a bit la overall in my character haha

going back to singapore in july. so we shud hv a class outing then haha =)

hmm. besides the topic of the memo, it's hard to think of anything else to blog about, because i haven't been thinking of much except for that for the past.. 42 hours? except for the fact that the guitar ensemble had a performance somewhere in the 42 hours, which was, fortunately (or unfortunately) over in a flash. hmm..

What This Blog Means

Great to see the class blog so alive and kicking again, despite the fact that it has just been resuscitated. Only when the class blog was gone from the Internet did I realise how much I've missed 06s7d, and JC life in general. I found http://06s7d.blogspot.com being one of the several addresses I type in the URL box of Internet Explorer whenever I open it (yes, I don't really care if I don't have Firefox or whatever), another address being that of my own blog (yes, I'm still a very narcissistic person) and some other websites and blogs I frequent (not for you to know). Even though I knew that the class blog had been taken down, removed, it still felt natural for me to type in that address.

And when the screen changed to say "Internet Explorer cannot find this page", I always inevitably feel a sense of loss, and a realisation that I actually really like the people in 06s7d and being a part of this group. I mean, I've always appreciated this class, though sometimes I know I've taken it for granted. Something thats really true about our class is that each of us are very true, sincere and we aren't the multi-faceted, sophisticated type of people able to change a side of us to show different persons at different times. And this is a value that less and less people have nowadays.

I guess this blog has evolved into a common space in each of our lives. Though we may be in different schools, different faculties, different camps, different units, different countries and time zones even, and however different our lives may now be, this blog remains a common space that we all share. It represents the similarities in us, where we all came from before we diverged onto such distinct paths in life after JC. It is at once a celebration of both our common 7D identity and our colourful diversity.

So yes, I do feel sad that three years' worth of interesting blog posts from the innocent days of JC have just been wiped off cyberspace like that. But what I'm more happy about is the fact, shown by how we still regularly check and post on the class blog, that we still care about this class, and care about each other. This was the reason why The Class Blog of 06s7d was resuscitated from the depths of cyberspace, and also why I'm sure it will continue to grow in the years ahead.

Good morning, afternoon, or night! depending where on earth (ya haha) you are and what time you read this.

All I wanna say is:

I WANNA BE A JC KID AGAIN. ok la i think sometimes i just think about life back in jc and the great company around me. not that the pple around me now aren't great, but more of that i could take some comforting things for granted then, like there'll alw be a pack of cards ready as long as there are 4 eager pple. or that at least my classmates will be the same bunch of pple for the whole of two years whom i can do things like this:

without fear of tarnishing my reputation (if any).

*anw if anyone is interested to know, my tongue has gained more useful functions than just touching my nose (read: cleaning stains around my mouth in a super unglam fashion) which has just about disgusted anyone who has seen it. not too many though haha*

and as much as mrs foo talked about how she would not spoonfeed us like secsch kids, i think would go crazy now if i've not taken jc bio, cos things that were usually covered in 1 set of notes over 2 lectures is now covered in 2 slides in part of 1 lecture.

anw back to my pt abt wanting to be a jc kid. in uni,

3. there is no pe
4. you can't pin your hopes on this major exam at the end of your course like the A levels cos every sem affects ur cap

Orientation 2009 - Rev it up!

On Friday, 13th of February, some of us went back down to the orientation campfire for our 09 batch of juniors. When I arrived, the performances at the hall had already begun and I made my way up to the second floor for a better view. Jane and SECOND-LIEUTENANT-Niklas were already there and Adrian joined us later.

The performances were hilarious and entertaining, and the Apollo one was the most politically correct of the lot and (therefore) successfully won the judges' hearts. The faculty dances for 08 and 09 were also featured and I felt that the Ares faculty dance was slightly better this year (although Apollo won the faculty dance competition this year :P).

After the performances in the hall, we moved to the open area for lighting of the campfire! I didn't get a good view, but I heard each faculty head lit up an individual trail of fire which all converged to the campfire. They also made the flaming Rev-It-Up move up and down, which was quite a memorable scene. Tried to find our teachers but could only get Mrs Soh. Saw quite alot of new teachers instead.

After the campfire, it was song and dance time! I got rather high, but Niklas, Adrian and Jane refused to join in, so pangseh. Next time more people should come leh, else no critical mass to get high. In the end I sang songs with other schoolmates (Hongfei, Shou Hao, Zeqi and more) and danced with a junior from 07S7B.

The orientation campfire really dug up all the wonderful memories I had in Hwa Chong. I really miss school! We should have a class outing soon :D

Hello! As u can see, I am carrying out my promise to add content to the 'new' blog:)

It's really sad that our old blog's gone, cos it contained so many many memories, complete with photos and all, from orientation to class outings to hospital visit to CT sessions to totally random stuff. but i hope these memories are/will always stay with us!

Some things i miss about hc:
- class bench! every morning some people would try to do work while others talk about random stuff/ask ppl to 'stop mugging' (nik)/play using something they made out of free postcards and hand-written chemical symbols(?). and it was nice to see juniors hanging around too!
- $1 hotdog bun from the cafe (on tues)
- lunch time (xiao mi mi + HL choc milk + something from the hot dinks stall + the occasional ice cream from ppl trying to raise funds)
- being in E203/4/5, spinning in that chair, wondering why the room's so cold
- and so many more!!

HELLO everybody!

CNY is coming up, and it's making me miss Singapore more than ever! we just had some sort of Singaporean/Malaysian CNY party complete with bak-kwa, char kway teow, prata, red bean etc and had this totally cheena asian party as well, with random asian drum performances, chinese orchestral style rendition of Lust Caution's theme and acapella performances. Fun, but still, miss you guys loads!

weather is terrible, hit -16 degrees last week. hope everyone's CNY goes well. Gong xi fa cai, wan shi ru yi! (i want to eat fa cai and buddha jumps over the wall and all that stuff :( ...my mother has very cruelly promised to take pictures of every single dish at our usual reunion dinner at Ritz Carlton's Summer Palace restaurant and send them to me. some mother. )

i will read the budget report soon! hahah im trying to bring myself to do it.

Hey people,

I just want to say that I REALLY enjoyed meeting up with all of you guys when I was back. I'm really so glad our class can still meet up and you know, just chill. And plus our wonderful tendency to k-box :D

i miss all of you already. I think there was something really special about the way 06S7D was, and I don't think I could have ever been in a better class. The level of comfort is beyond description. If you think about, it's some random permutation of fate (well, STP) that brought us all together. It's like chance, and think of how easy it could have been to have never met each other, suppose we were randomly arranged into other classes.

YAY! it's quite amazing our blog is still alive. i know i know. i've said this like.. countless times. nevertheless!! =)))

anyway, it's kinda late and i've slept about.. 5 hours in the past.. don't-know-how-many hours cuz of stayover for movie marathon and various million other stuffs. all i can remember is running from place to place. in any case, presenting our very own 7d-wishball, with our dearest lovely model, jaime, posing with it =)) ain't it cute. got it randomly (don't know who suggested it!) when we were walking towards our normal haunt (kbox!) at suntec during class outing (woohoo~! made possible with many thanks to organiser jinrong. first in a long time and great turn out!). sorta wrote our 'wishes', though it's really more like spamming random crap like 'kaiherng sucks' (oh man so sad. who wrote this!), 'we tio scolded', 'it's a plane. it's a bird. it's a WEEMAN', 'i love chem', *various ppl* love 7d, 'kat sends love from UIUC', 'niklas is a BAD neighbour', 'soonhuat is antisocial', etc.

it was quite a fun and hilarious attempt. and yes, we did get scolded by the people there for hogging markers ('not all of you are writing right?'), kicking the balls ('this is not soccer' or something along those lines), choosing the ball we want ('can you take those already over there'), and stuff like that o.O i guess we were rather rowdy and a tad inconsiderate.. but still =(

firstly i have to apologize for behaving as tho i'm not a part of the class, letting the class down in so many ways, e.g. not really reading the blog, allowing it to die, and i rmb with much guilt how wl almost strangled me at the airport the night i was supposed to fly off and how she texted pple to tell them abt it.

last time i read this blog, it had kinda gone into hibernation so i stopped, and then nik told me today that there were updates on the recent class gathering, and i found out tt avid bloggers were blogging about sch/army life...what made me decide to kick myself into blogging here was cm's post that totally caught me off guard cos it was so unusally sentimental :'( awww

well..i'm not sure where to start about the u of I besides the fact tt it has a long name - uni of Illinois at urbana-champaign. yes it lies on 2 cities, west half is champaign, where my dorm is, and the east half is urbana, where my future apartment is. decided that it's much cheaper to get one on a 12month lease so that we can save alot more money on food, cos it's cheaper to cook on our own, and alot healthier too. every meal is a buffet, and with all the new food there is, who wldn't be tempted to try everything. you have that, and the fact that my school is in the midwest where the weather is crazily cold and i need to kick myself to get out of bed and exercise, and you end up looking more prosperous than usual.

what strikes me the most about school is how independent everyone is, and how much freedom there is to do what you want to do. we have some hours to fulfill for our major, some general education hours, and elective hours. my school is a public school, meaning that they offer a huge variety of majors, and we're allowed to take level 1 classes from almost any major. i've had qte an interesting semester this fall...psych 100 is my only psych class cos it's the prerequisite for everything else. besides that, i took global history, a music class that teaches vocal techniques, a community health class abt drugs and society, and a religious studies class where i learn the bible as a lit text. there are so many opportunities around..many diff performance groups putting up their plays/musicals/concerts/standup comedy performances whatever and the details in chalk on the sidewalk or pasted on the toilet doors, community service stuff, volunteer opportunities for psych studies (almost got into a very good paying one but they rejected me). we're such an agricultural state (main crop being corn) that we have buildings for animal sciences, crop sciences, dairy sciences etc. kinda mindblowing. anw, i've been the slackest in my whole batch, being one of the non-engineering pple and, like how aaron has felt guilty being slack, i've felt guilty the whole semester as well. they get quizzes every week, while i'm practicing singing as homework.

anw, for those who were wondering what it was like during the elections, i wasn't there at chicago, but when the announcements were out, pple on the floor of my dorm were screaming, running around, cheering, crying etc. it was highly emotional and most pple really wanted obama to win. well, i just joined in with the screaming anw. haha. it's really different in other states, like when i went to texas to see my relatives, they all reacted so differently to the elections. well...they're the united states, but the line that divides the democrats and republicans is rather well-defined.

also, my school has the biggest greek system in the country, meaning we have countless buildings for frats and sororities with different permutations and combinations of 3 greek letters. who wld know what they mean man..i cld prob come up with a random combination and there's a high chance that it exists. anw, there'd be a few weekends when pple wld go "rushing" from frat to frat, get to meet the frat brothers, see if they like u, and if they do, u're in. unlike what i first believed, there's not much initiation - at least tt's what a friend tells me. there are professional frats for those in the same major, and there are social ones for all the partying and drinking. partying starts on friday, and the dorm wld be super empty except for mugger singaporeans like me and my best friend cum roomie, but we've learnt to go out, have fun and have stuff like 2am suppers at the international house of pancakes. back to the greek system, it's amazing how they're so developed tt they have greek merchandise in the bookstores..sweatpants with the letters plastered all across the butt area, shot glasses, wine glasses, notepads, shirts etc in hot pink and other girly colours.

back to being sentimental, i just kinda miss the familiarity of the routine lives we led for 2 years, seeing the same faces every morning, sharing our lives and forging those friendships even for those brief 2 years. the opportunity to create those bonds just seem to get shorter, don't they? u'd think that jc was short enough, but it's worse in the army, even for that brief 6 months i was there. 3 months with girls, and then 3 months with guys..and it's repeating itself here in uni too. 6 months of a fixed set of classes with random pple that just happened to select that same slot at the same location, listening to the prof speak, submitting assignments and all...after those 6 months, the class is over. the prof gives his final lecture, and the students file out, nv to meet again. if u're lucky, u prob made friends with the pple u sit with during lecture. otherwise, it's a brand new start once again next semester. new classes, new profs, new classmates...for a while i just wished some things were constant. but we're just individual faces that make up the crowd of 12,000 pple. whew.

whatever it is, it's interesting looking at what we've become after a year. i've no doubt that many of us will achieve great heights in our respective fields...but i just hope even more that we'll all be doing what we really want to do, myself included :) maybe one day, when we re-write that list, there'd be a journalist/pastry chef/whatever among them. haha

A HUGE thank you to you all who posted, it was just so lovely catching up and feeling like, in some way, I was really sharing part of your lives. Coming back to this class blog after the longest time, expecting dust and cobwebs, and somehow seeing this place so lively is..honestly..the best post-exams present ever (:

It's strange that old feelings of sentimentality can remain so dormant, and be stirred up again by mere words on a computer screen. But then again, words penned by you all are just..different. A lot of it has to do with..thinking back to the first few moments and first impressions. And then reliving everything we suffered together (some lessons filled with tyranny and fear (or maybe just for some of us who didnt do work and/or fell asleep in class)) and riffling through snapshots of the class (honestly it appears in my mind like black and white photos (but i can also choose to play it in video form lah) - am i just abnormal?) - our addiction to captains' ball. going DAMN EARLY to bio lecture to read notes (yes we are true blue nerds). our hotdog tuesdays. somehow knowing our class would destroy the way the results bar chart looks (but then again, it became normal once our 3 titans left for intl competition HAHAHA). early mornings at the class bench. the warm and homely feeling being with you all. our ever-enthuness for school events.

You know...reading the class blog in the past was like...entertainment (but then again I found a lot of things entertaining right ha ha ha). Reading it now though is just...an altogether different experience, like snatching a peek into the way our lives have all diverged. And it's so amazing right, how many of us would have thought this far ahead or, even if we did, the intensity and the reality of this change? It's like we all get swept up in the speed with which new things, new people come at us...

For me, SMU law has been...intense. Wish i could say im loving every moment of it but the MUGGING REALLY SUCKS SOMETIMES (right,jane?and all the other uni ppl?and army guys hang in there it'll be over soon(: ) still i DO love it mostly and im so so glad that i chose the right school and the right course and i know this is what i really want to do...(: (though sometimes still a bit sad about not being able to go overseas lah. But. The grass is always greener over there)

Made many many new friends..that's the gift of moving on right? Somehow, though, 06s7d is really special to me (honestly..e.g..i would never say the same thing for my NY classes) for reasons I don't know, or don't feel able to articulate right now..but I'm sure..most if not all of us share this something that belongs so exclusively to us. It doesn't have to be verbalised. It just..exists (and I'm glad it does)

Miss you all so much (contrary to what I stupidly mentioned at the class chalet bbq last time and which i NOW FORMALLY RETRACT) and do take bestest care k meet up soon! (:

P.S. ANYWAY in case anyone was wondering, yes my laughter is still as uncontrollable and famous in uni! (omg i think it got worse actually!!) the law kids have 100000 names for it (kind of reminds me of you all! haha) and most of it involves insanity provisions in the penal code, etc. hhahaha.so sad.

P.P.S Btw I'm somehow damn slow at math and science now looks like STP didnt get to reap its fruits of labour after all haha :X

okay that title was no big deal because I couldn't think of a nice title. But anw it's 4am and there's no better time to ~~sleep because my exam starts on monday~~ post on the class blog!

well well well, to all other singaporean guys not in med, here's a glimpse of uni life from the perspective of a 19-year-old singaporean guy who's not expected to be in uni just yet.

So... I don't usually hide my age, but i think there's still a handful of people around me who think i'm 21, which is kinda fun. Not that i like to act old but well it's just fun (you see why i'm in fos not fass cos if i write essays with arguments like that i'm not gonna do well). but anw, a typical conversation with someone (let's say a year 1 guy) i've just met goes like this:
him: "hi"
me: "hi"
...some random what's-ur-names and how-is-lifes and which-fac-you-froms and OH let's talk about the which-fac-you-froms...
him: "which fac you from?"
me: "sci"
him: "oh. which major?"

sch's pretty okay so far. fun at times, sian at times, busy at times. normal stuff. fun cos i just smashed a piece of cake right in the middle of someone's face for the first time in my life, sian cos my lessons start at 8 all the time, busy cos there's alws some usp writing stuff to do (jaime can testify to that).

i shall let pictures do the talking too:

NUS condo and my room: the place i've been staying in most of the time (except during the weekends) for the past erm 4 months or so. what pgp really lacks is a swimming pool, then it'll really be like a condo. ha.

typical life sci lecture. well. actually i've only got 1 life sci module this sem.

somehow i spent quite a lot of time behind booths. selling stuff/giving out stuff/asking pple to fill in survey. but the selling of food is really quite fun. it's for my yep (ocip). going to vietnam this december for 3 weeks! there goes my holiday... but oh well i'm not regretting.

this photo was taken during the last chem lab session. chem prac really isn't what it used to be. no rudylee to tell u what to/demonstrate stuff =( it's go online, download the prac, watch videos online on how to do all the new stuff u've never done before, scribble those steps on the inadequately-described practical handout, go to the lab, start doing ur stuff, and when u're done hand in ur work (usually a sealed packet of whatever sample you've purified) and then leave. at least that's how my org chem prac went. but i've got great bench mates so it's not that stressful.

HA! bet the last time you went for an excursion to the zoo with ur cher and ur classmates was like long long ago. I went last week for the biodiversity module. it was raining too. and it was one day after the white tiger incident.

It's great to see this place so alive. I think we're getting more and more used to the fact that our lives have moved on, and this blog has become a place through which we can only hope to stay in touch.

I don't really like talking about army life. But anyway, for the sake of updating you guys, no, I'm not a third sergeant in BMT like Yongzi's list suggested. Somehow I'm in the most chiong-sua wing of the army, the Infantry, and I'm a section commander here. Now's lull period while we wait for the enlistees to come in December and take them through the life cycle of a rifleman; next year will be a hell of a year which will culminate in Brunei and the much-awaited, much-anticipated ORD. Don't really want to say which unit I'm in; you can ask me personally if you want, I just don't want random people from my unit searching and somehow stumbling onto this blog and consequently, my blog. I really prefer keeping my army and civilian (okay, I don't like the word civilian too, because it's just such an army word. ie. when you're a civilian walking the streets, you don't think you're a civilian at all. You just are one.) worlds apart.

About why I don't like talking about army life. I think I've gone through the entire cycle of emotions you can experience when it comes to the military. I've been excited about the army, sian about it, hated it to the core, been really disappointed in it, angry with it and scared of it. I've experienced incredible joy and fun here; I've also gone through despair and desolateness, all in the army. Somehow ever since I got my third sergeant rank three months ago I've just felt strangely detached from everything. Feelings and emotions become easier to suppress, hide. I don't really get excited or happy about anything in army anymore; neither do I get terribly sad or sian - I just feel a void within me where those emotions should have been. Sometimes it feels like I'm already above it all, in a kind of tranquility, unaffected by all the things going on in the army. But of course occasionally I do get worked up too. Yeah, so if you ask me 'how's life in army?' or questions as such, it's a bit hard for me to reply. It's not shiong, it's not fun, it's not sian, it's not terrible. I just don't really feel anything anymore.

It's a very stark contrast to my life on the Outside. When I come out of camp, I begin reclaiming back those emotions that used to be a very important part of me. I think I'm learning more and discovering more about myself each day I'm outside of camp. The thing about booking-out is that it's so short, it makes you ponder what you really enjoy most in life, and consequently what you should do during this time. Some time ago I realised that, and stopped packing my weekends full with all sorts of gatherings, movie sessions and dinner outings. I still enjoy them, but I realise after a weekend packed full of such stuff, I don't feel wholesome, I don't feel super recharged, I don't feel a huge sense of fulfillment. Sure, it's fun, but after that? I'm getting in touch with my introverted side as well, and finding pleasure doing other kinds of stuff.

Dreaming up lots of plans for post-ORD. I kind of want to be a lazy bum, and not go to work at all. I'm seriously considering backpacking for an extended period of time, say six months. With friends for part of the way and alone for part of the way. Maybe through seeing more of the world, I can see more into myself at the same time. I don't see any other time period in the forseeable future when I'd be able to take so much time off and just do what I want with my life, the way I want it. So post-ORD's definitely going to be a big thing for me. Get in touch with me if you have similarly idealistic thoughts. Haha.

contrary to 'popular' belief, i'm not very free. but ok, shall save the blog left stranded and abandoned on this lonely monday night.

hmm. school's pretty much routinised and we all complain about being like living machines. you know, go there at this fixed, programmed time on particular days, do what you're supposed to do, process it, apply it, go home, repeat process. but it's pretty much about that huh? (of course, there's always the random stuff sprinkled here and there..) whether it's at the workplace, at school, in the army, 'people' (and we practically don't know who these legendary 'people' are) always have plans for us. so we just carry them out. a very surreal experience. it's as if you're there, and then again, you aren't really. you're just living out something else.

i think everyone in class is doing pretty well all around the world, a little less than half in army, a little more than half studying our asses off.. or maybe not =)

my campus at night.. taken by a rather shaky tired hand. it's a pretty campus.. isolate from the rest of nus at krc (kent ridge campus) and quiet. nice to walk around when it's raining. then the blinds will come down automatically. it's quite funny cuz people sit at those ledges (the semicircles) and when the blinds come down when it's raining, they have to get down fast or be trapped outside with the 'cats and dogs' (read: 'raining cats and dogs'). which i find amusing. especially when they lay out so many papers and such. and i saunter pass.. apathetically. oops. haha. anyone who wants to come over just let me know =) wow. sounds like such an advertisement.

well, a lot of swearing? from coursemates and lecturers, etc. like during seminar, we were 'introduced' to this term, lppl. and apparently, the army guys are supposed to know, but we all looked so lost. google it if you have any interest. and stuff like SFW and BFD.. *to try not be influenced* i can understand if people want to swear for some valid reason, but it gets annoying when some people think they're still in army and attach profanities to every single sentence. so what if you were a commander or you were from army? every one else has toned it down or at least realised that, well, you're not in the army anymore. so get over it. wake up. show some respect.

graffiti at vivo. vw roadshow. saw my ex-colleagues from the last roadshow and they could recognise me =)) that aside, it didn't occur to me that vw and graffiti could go together. but it's really quite a cool concept. wonder how much the setup cost this time..

i always thought that the font was deliberately made small so that the books can be in a reasonable size and of a reasonable weight. the picture shows that 7 lines of the criminal law textbook can fit into the first 'joint' (*gets hammered by med people*) of my little finger. my boss used to tell me that her degrees shot up during her pupilage. never doubted that. will never doubt that. but will try to take good care of my eyesight as of now.

another page of the textbook. i won't be so naive as to think that anyone would seriously want to read it. but in any case, the point was to show that law is not that detached from science, math and equations.

Unit life as a man is beautiful (uh what is responsibility, chiongsua and extra?) The environment is nice but sometimes prickly, as someone demonstrated how to make 100 enemies in 1 night.
I used to feel guilty doing nothing when people were doing things. But after a while I realised they were doing things only to cover up for having nothing to do. Anyway next week will have plenty of things to do. 2nd outfield since bmt. Bad things always happen during outfield. The last time we went out, the stock market crashed. Maybe thats why the regulars all so emo during recovery. Whats next? Palin for president?

I shall have the honour of providing follow up treatment for the blog, which is in such a not so sad state! But still quite ok i guess, considering we occasionally tag, and i believe most ppl still check it :)
Seletar camp is beautiful (Nice sea view, alot of assorted fruit trees and exotic varieties of birds). It is actually quite an idyllic location, you could just sit there and enjoy the sea breeze and listen to the birds sing. Quite sad that they made it into an army camp. Should have become a resort or something. I finally passed my SOC; when I couldn't pass it i dreaded staying back on Saturdays for remedial training. Seletar camp food is rather good, but it's still no substitute for food outside of the army. Unit life is rather regular and less hectic than a trainee life. As a sergeant I can visit the mess, play free pool, watch television and surf the net. Little mercies that keep you going in the army.

note to Shirli: Probably coming next year or next next year. Anyone else studying at Christ's college currently?

I now have the role of continued survival of the blog, which is in a sorry state! But still quite ok i guess, considering people occasionally post and i believe some people still read it =)

Resummex was terrible (torrential rain, heavy loads and brown mud). The weather was hot and wet; when my handfan broke down i dreaded trying to fall asleep cos it was boiling. And when i forgot to apply insect repellant my skin would become red and even start to itch and swell!!
I used to feel guilty slacking because everyone was suffering. But yesterday i had nothing for dinner (Sentry duty!!). Tried eating last summex.. and i think the stuff in cookhouse near my bunk is much better! Sighhh. Instructors are pesky and evil. A lot of preparations needed too. And it's also quite fun to worry about how u are going to get hold of the generator which you (and 1 other) need to carry 5 stories before you can do anything. Sobsob.

note to shirli: Your college sounds very very much like paradise, heaven, and many other nirvanas!! Enjoy. Though i dun imagine you will appreciate much. Your college is also humane.. and don't worry about 5-6 redeployments!!! OR Wednesday midnight turnouts!!! When will i leave?

HOHO i just want to say niklas looks really funny here :) this is Manhattan fish market btw, for those who can't identify it.

I hate lim chern wei btw. congrats to all the guys who got where they wanted to, be it command school or another unit :) happy confinement!

i miss going out with 06s7d a lot. i just really wanna thank everybody for everything. Seriously, i feel very blessed to be in this class. everyone is kinda peaceful (haha @ chia ming) and there arent any big fallouts or bitchiness or what not, for which i am really grateful. seriously, for a class where pple are so smart/accomplished in their own ways, you'd expect a lot of big egos pushing around and hence a lot of fights/skirmishes/coldwars/backstabbing/competition. but no, it didn't happen, which i think is absolutely pretty amazing!

im not saying we're a perfect class, because occasionally we do have our own set of problems (like perma zibei on the side of some of us) but still, we're the best that we can be. i'd like everybody to know how much i appreciate them, that it is so rare, for something like this to fall nicely into place, for us to sort of unanimously agree that 06S7D is a class to cherish. i don't know how often that has happened in your life: that you have such a large group of pple, not chosen by your hand, that can, by chance (sort of?), end up in such a fantabulous situation.

if it has been often, then you're really lucky. if it hasn't, then i think you know what i'm talking about.
